QIANLONG PERIOD (1736-1795)
Well carved in the form of a chrysanthemum blossom, the cover with three rows of slender petals radiating outward from a central flowerhead, each petal carved with a shou medallion and lotus blossoms, the box similarly carved above a conforming foot encircled by a keyfret band, the interiors and base covered in black lacquer

Lot Essay

A box of this form carved in a similar style with slightly different decoration is in the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco and illustrated in Hai-wai Yi-Zhen (Chinese Art in Overseas Collections - Lacquerware), National Palace Museum, Taipei, 1987, no. 160.
