DATED TO THE FIRST DAY, NINTH MONTH, TWENTY-THIRD YEAR OF THE REIGN OF CHENGHUA, CORRESPONDING TO 1487, AND OF THE PERIOD
The bald figure shown seated holding a small grinning cat, his robes with voluminous sleeves decorated in thread relief with foliate designs and cast in relief on the back with a dated dedicatory inscription, with extensive polychrome decoration still remaining

Lot Essay

The inscription refers to the donors, Li Si and Jin Shi, and the monk, Yihe, to whom the figure was to be delivered at the Kaihua Temple in Huazhuang.
