Lot Essay
The table, with its reed-enriched rim and legs relates to the antique fashion promoted around 1800 by the architect Sir John Soane. The same patterned leg features on an 'Imperial' dining-table bearing the engraved plaque of the Catherine Street cabinet-makers Morgan & Sanders, who were established in 1800, and was probably amongst the furniture introduced to Stoneythorpe Hall, Warwickshire following his inheritance of the estate in 1800 by Henry Thomas Chamberlayne (d. 1836) (offered Sotheby's West Wycombe house sale, 22-24 June 1998, lot 1082).
