Lot Essay

The table, with its voluted truss pilasters wrapped by Grecian palms and Roman foliage, relates to a sideboard pattern in Thomas King's Modern Style Exemplified, 1829 (E. Joy, Pictorial Dictionary of British 19th Century Furniture Designs, Woodbridge, 1977, p. 430). A related sideboard, after the latter design, was sold Sotheby's London, 11 July 1997, lot 268.
