The rectangular jade panel is incised and gilded on one side with sprays of flowers growing on a rockwork ground within a key-fret border, inscribed with the title, Yuti Changchunhua, 'Imperial inscription on the Flower of Eternal Spring', the reverse similarly decorated
16 1/2 in. (42 cm.) high overall, mounted within zitan stand

Lot Essay

This short poem is recorded in Yutishi Sanji, 'Imperial Poems, volumn 3', juan 65. The inscription may be translated as:

The Nuyi spirit governs this flower,
blossoming monthly a fragrance for all seasons.
The Autumn chrysanthemum and Spring orchid would like to ask,
who is eligible for the title, 'Eternal Spring'?
