Act I: title page, dramatis personae, with autograph revisions by Conan Doyle on each page and his remark on verso of final page, 'Too much noise with chairs', 26 pages;
Act II: title page, autograph revisions on twenty pages and additions on versos of two pages (22 lines), 22 pages;
Act III: titlepage, autograph revisions on twenty-one pages and additions on versos of two pages (53 lines), 29 pages; with a second version;

Gerard, the unfailingly valiant and conceited hussar, is arguably Conan Doyle's most successful literary creation after Holmes and Watson and the stories have had lasting success. Green and Gibson, App. IV. 7. (7)
