Titles with engraved vignettes, 63 engraved half-page maps and one engraved full-page map, woodcut diagrams in text, woodcut initials, head- and tail-pieces throughout (world map foxed). (First title-page stained and with library blindstamp, few scattered leaves browned or foxed.) Quarter calf (worn).
FIRST EDITION IN ITALIAN. The small format maps were engraved by Girolamo Porro using the 1561 Valgrisi edition as a model. Decorative lettering and cartouches have been added to these plates, for example the elephant on p. 18. Phillips Atlases 405; Sabin 66506. Sold not subject to return.
