A Meissen armorial hexafoil plate from the Podewils Service
CIRCA 1745, BLUE CROSSED SWORDS MARK, PRESSNUMMER 21
The centre painted with scattered Kakiemon flower-sprays, flowerheads and inscets in flight, the border with further flower-sprays centred at the top with a coat of arms within a gilt escucheon surrounded by the Order of the Black Eagle, surmounted by a gilt coronet and flanked by two crowned black eagle supporters each with crowned gilt FR monograms and standing on gilt and red scroll supports, the moulded rim edged with two gilt lines divided by six moulded gilt shells at the rounded corners (very slight wear to gilt shells and minute wear to gilt line rim)

Lot Essay

Count von Podewils was the Prussian Ambassador to Copenhagen and Stockholm from 1728 to 1729, and a cabinet minister for foreign affairs in Friedrich Wilhelm I's court. For a while, under Frederick The Great, he was in charge of foreign affairs.
