Each modelled as a classically-draped winged figure of Victory holding aloft scrolling foliate-cast candlearms, standing on a sphere and square pedestal applied to the front with a lyre, above a stepped square plinth

Lot Essay

The present candelabra are closely related to the documented oeuvre of the bronzier Claude Galle. A similar pair of candelabra supplied by Galle for the Petit Trianon are illustrated in H. Ottomeyer and P. Pröschel, Vergoldete Bronzen, Munich, 1986, vol. II, p. 705, fig. 21.
