A Silver and Gold Damascened Iron Ritual Chopper, Karttrka
Tibet, 15th Century
The crescent-form blade with gold lettered Mahakala mantra in ranjana script issuing from the jaws of a makara, the upper border worked in relief with flames in silver and gold and filigree scrollwork along the rim, the handle with bead knop surmounted by a half-vajra finial with prongs issuing from smaller makaras, all alternatingly damascened in silver and gold
