A wedding present given to Mr and Mrs H.M. Stanley on the occasion of their marriage, 12 July 1890: a silver travelling smokers set by Mappin & Webb, comprising a silver cheroot case, of oval section, the sprung covers with partial reeding and gilt interior the fitted case with entwined initials, HMS from EM, with maker's mark D&F, Birmingham, 1886; a silver vesta case, in oval section, the cover engraved with similar entwined initials, with maker's mark G.W., London 1889, both housed in fitted leather case, the cover gilt-stamped 'HMS from EM July 12th 1890', lined with purple velvet and silk (empty recess for cigarette case).
