A VERY RARE DATED BRONZE PORTRAIT FIGURE*
WANLI MARK AND POSSIBLY OF THE PERIOD
Finely cast as a scholar/official seated in a yokeback armchair, with left hand resting on the arm and his feet resting on a footrest with shaped apron, wearing simple robes falling in graceful folds and clasped at the neck by a small toggle, and a close-fitting cloth cap, his face cast with high cheekbones, a mustache and fine features set in a slight smile, the curved backsplat of the chair incised or cast with the dated ten-character inscription, Wanli ding wei wushen renwu bingwu, traces of black and dark red lacquer
