Lot Essay
Jeon made prints as a boy before moving to wood sculpture in his late teens. His carving techniques derive from those used for Buddhist sculpture and he adopts traditional imagery for the ceramics he now produces such as the carp and lotus shown here. Jeon carves directly on the surface of the vessel without preliminary drawing or stenciled guide. He considers his method a union of technical skill and mind. The artist has exhibited at the Tong-In Gallery, New York, the Korea, Japan and China Design Workshop, 2002 and in the Yeoju Design Workshop, 2003.
