Lot Essay

Similar examples, with the same border design, were sold at Christie's, New York, 17 December 2003, lot 101, and in these Rooms, 29 April 2004, lot 174. The present example, however, has a more openly spaced field with fewer floral sprays coupled with darker charcoal guard stripes which give the impression of a framed picture.
