Collation: a-z & A8 B-E6 (a1r blank, a1v dedication by Calderino to Francisco Lodovico, a2r dedication by Calderino to Lorenzo de Medici, a3r life of Martial by Calderino, a3v epistle of Pliny the Younger to Cornelius Priscus, a4r text, E2v colophon, E3r letter of Calderino to Corelio, E5v register, E6 blank). 223 (of 224, without final blank) leaves. 57 lines of commentary surround. Types: 1:115R; 2:78R; 78 Greek. 2- to 6-line initial spaces. (Occasional light browning or spotting, a few small stains.) 18th-century russia, single gilt fillet border, sprinkled edges (rebacked, joints splitting, somewhat scuffed at extremities). Ninth edition of Martial's Epigrams, the first to contain the popular commentary by Calderino, originally printed separately by De Colonia and Manthen in 1474. The anonymous printer of this 1480 edition is known to have been responsible for only two other books, the Epistolae ad familiares of Cicero and the Satyrae of Persius Flaccus, also published in 1480.
