CIRCA 1735, BLUE CROSSED SWORDS MARK, GILDER'S 3. MARK TO BOTH
The cream-pot of bombé form, painted by C.F. Herold and enriched in gilding with three vignettes of Orientals at various pursuits including a boy playing with two squirrels on a loop, on terraces with stylised fences, tables, chairs and flowering shrubs within shaped quatrefoil gilt cartouches with Böttger-lustre panels, gilt and red scrolls, panels of puce scale ornament, suspending small puce river-landscape vignettes within shaped yellow cartouches below and joined at the sides by shaped panels of puce scale ornament supporting puce figures, on three incised paw feet, the scroll handle with gilt Laub-und-Bandelwerk suspending coloured husks, the flared rim with a gilt band, the shallow-domed cover similarly decorated with three chinoiserie vignettes about a gilt knop finial (one paw with small chip to a claw, cover with minute chip to underside of rim, areas of minute wear to gilding)
