A MEISSEN POWDERED-BLUE GROUND CHINOISERIE SLOP-BOWL
CIRCA 1740, BLUE CROSSED SWORDS MARK, PRESSNUMMER 3
The ground reserved on each side with a chinoiserie vignette painted after designs by J.G. Höroldt, one with a lady holding a torch and carried on a robe by two attendants, the other with an Oriental preparing tea on an elaborate platform flanked by shrubs and stylised rockwork, within quatrefoil gilt cartouches edged with scrolls, flowers and panels of diaper and line ornament, the interior with a flowering branch of indianische Blumen below a gilt Laub-und-Bandelwerk border, gilt line rim (two adjacent restored rim chips, slight wear to gilding, slight scratching to surface, areas of very slight staining)
