A rare Steiff roly poly teddy bear
with blonde mohair, black boot button eyes, pronounced muzzle, black stitched nose, mouth and claws, swivel head, jointed limbs and bulbous weighted body, circa 1910 --5¼in. (13.5cm.) high (very worn, fraying of cloth on nose and arms and water stain to lower body)

Lot Essay

These Roly Poly toys were introduce in the 1909 catalogue as 'Toys for Tiny Tots'. The series included Farmer Dach, Golliwog, Cowboy, Clown Cloo, Cat and Rabbit. This bear was available in four sizes 7, 8, 10 and 14 inches, which this bear at 5¼in. contradicts.
