An Edwardian mahogany longcase clock, early 20th century
The hood with moulded swan neck pediment, carved sound frets to the sides and inset brass-capped fluted columns, the arched trunk door flanked by canted angles, with conforming angles to the panelled plinth, the 12in. wide brass dial with foliate spandrels to a silvered Roman chapter ring, signed on a plaque R. STEWART/CORNER OF BUCHANAN & ARGYLE ST./GLASGOW, the silvered centre engraved with leafy scrolls and with flowerheads around the winding holes, with subsidiary seconds ring to the centre and strike/silent ring to the arch, the eight day movement with four tapering pillars, with deadbeat escapement, maintaining power and rack strike on gong; steel rod pendulum with brass lenticular bob -- 92½in. (235cm.) high
