A George II japanned longcase clock, circa 1730
The hood with stepped and moulded pediment with brass finials, glazed side panels and inset columns, with breakarch trunk door, on stepped plinth with bracket feet (part later), the 12in. wide brass dial with chevron-engraved border, bird and urn spandrels to silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with fleur-de-lys half hour markers, signed John Mason/LONDON, matted centre with subsidiary seconds ring and with engraving around the date aperture, pierced steel hands, the arch with strike/silent ring with engraved rosette to the centre, the eight day movement with five ringed pillars, anchor escapement and rack strike on bell; built-up cheekboards, possibly associated -- 105in. (267cm.) high
