CIRCA 1720, THE DECORATION AND MOUNTS CONTEMPORARY, THE MOUNTS WITH MARKS FOR ELIAS ADAM, AUGSBURG
Decorated in the Augsburg workshop of Bartolomäus Seuter, with a continuous central frieze of Oriental figures on a terrace with trees, three in conversation at a table below a three tiered canopy, musicians and figures around a low table before a burning censer, between bands of gadroons gilt alternately with dot ornament, scrolls and broad bands, the large S-scroll handle, triangular spout, waisted foot, flared rim and knop finial all richly gilt, the domed cover gilt with exotic birds in branches divided by an insect and a bird in flight above a broad gilt serrated border, the hinged mounts chased with a band of stiff leaves, the strapwork thumbpiece with a shell (flange on interior of cover with small chip, further chipping to flange from time of manufacture gilded, some areas of wear to gilding)
