Lot Essay

The decoration on this lot appears to be by the same hand as the teapot and cover, bowl and seven saucers from Lord Rothschild's Collection sold in these Rooms on 16th March 1970, lots 60, 60A and 60B; and the cups, saucers and spoon-tray from the Meinertzhagen Collection sold in these Rooms on 3rd March 1986, lots 23 and 24. A jug and cover with birds in purple monochrome by a similar hand is in the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe, Hamburg, see E. Hannover, European Porcelain, fig. 414.
