built up in plank on frame construction in 3/16" scale, the hull is planked up from the bottom in basswood, with a double ebony waist, and in walnut on the topsides. Abundant with carvings which include a figure head at the bow of a cherub holding a crown, ornamental and mythological relief carvings along the topsides around the gun ports, and additional carvings on the transom. The decks are planked in boxwood and fitted with numerous details which include: pin and fife rails, bell and belfry, capstan, deck gratings, rigged cannons on carriages, windows, swivel mounted guns, sky light, lanterns, along with other details. Fitted with three masts and a bowsprit with cross spars, standing and running rigging. All of the wood work is finished bright, in a matte finish. Displayed in a glass case with a mahogany base.

Lot Essay

The Caroline was designed by Joshua Allin and was built in the Deptford Dockyard, England in 1749. She was built for the use of George II and his wife, Queen Caroline. Her distinguished captains included Sir William Cornwallis and Sir Hyde Parker. In 1761, the vessel was renamed Charlotte (later Royal Charlotte) for Georges III prospective bride and Queen, Princess Sophie Charlotte.
