A gilt English watchcase with sundial and compass
16th Century
Containing a restored verge movement inscribed Mattheu Grellach Augsburg [?], with chain fusee, irregular shaped cock and foot, worm set-up, verge escapement, later dial plate containing later silver Roman chapter ring and blued steel hand, the gilt bronze case with hinged lids, one containing a sundial and a compass and the other with a laurel wreath decoration and the letters 'appt' with another 'p' below, the outer lid with engraved designs depicting Adam and Eve, in leather covered outer case with silver pinwork
