Each with bulb nozzle and spreading drip-pan, above a Van Dyck collar hung with droplets, on a bulbous shaft and waisted socle and rectangular plinth with gilt-decorated oval patera with blue spandrels, on a moulded plinth and ball feet, some droplets replaced

Lot Essay

The candlesticks, with vase-capped pillars, are designed in the George III Roman fashion; while their 'altar' plinths display golden 'Apollo' sunburst medallions in sky blue tablets. These orb-supported plinths correspond to the 1781 'patent' base introduced by the celebrated glass manufacturer William Parker (M. Mortimer, The English Glass Chandelier, Woodbridge, 2000, pl. 6).
