CLER, J.F.G., Baron de -- Catalogue des livres, instrumens de physique, tableaux, etc. de la bibliothèque de feu J.F.G. de Cler. Liège: J.A. Latour for Dethier, 20 February 1802.

8o (218 x 128 mm). Original grey-blue wrappers, uncut and unopened (spine perished).

Although from 1794 to the fall of Napoleon Liège was part of France, both Blogie and G. Brunet list the catalogue of this very extensive library under Belgium. Brunet remarks, "Beaucoup d'ouvrages rares" and adds that the owner had made small notes in Latin in many volumes in a neat hand, but regrets that the catalogue was not well compiled. Cler was especially interested in the early history of printing. He appears to have spent his whole life in Liège, but his title was French, granted to his family in 1734. Blogie I, col 47; G. Brunet, col. 594.
