JIN DYNASTY, 12TH-13TH CENTURY
Of shallow rounded form raised on a neat ring foot, molded with a central medallion of repeated lotus sprays within a narrow key-fret border and a wide outer band of dense composite foliate scroll, covered overall with a glaze of ivory tone falling in olive tears on the exterior, the unglazed mouth rim mounted with a copper rim
11 5/8 in. (29.4 cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

Several Dingyao dishes of this impressive size and delicately molded floral pattern have been published, including one in the Palace Museum, Beijing, illustrated in Dingyao, Zhongguo taoci quanji, vol. 9, Kyoto, 1981, pl. 83; the National Palace Museum, Taipei, included in the Special Exhibition of Ting Ware White Porcelain, Taipei, 1987, no. 82; the Cleveland Museum of Art, illustrated by J. Wirgin, Sung Ceramic Designs, London, 1979, pl. 78b; and one illustrated by Y. Mino and J. Robinson, Beauty and Tranquility: The Eli Lilly Collection of Chinese Art, Indianapolis, 1983, p. 216, no. 82.
