Edo Period (19th century), the first signed Sa Ichizan
The first carved in high relief with a dragon amidst swirling clouds, the eyes inlaid in ebony rimmed in gold; fitted with a wood ojime carved with birds in a tree; the second carved in relief with a Chinese lion and peony and a stylized dragon on the top and applied with glossy black lacquer and with details rendered in the brown of the polished underlying wood; interior black lacquer; with a silver bead ojime pierce-carved with panels of flowers
