The prototype for the Almagest was completed by George Burnett-Stewart in July 1989. It is named after the Latin version of the title of Ptolemy's Great Compilation -- Almagestum. In clock mode, this remarkable machine shows a three dimensional view of position of the planets as they appear from any point on earth. In research mode the Almagest can show the position of the planets as they have appeared or will appear at any time between 1000 B.C. and 5000 A.D. and is capable of taking into account the differences between the Julian and Gregorian calendars. Production of the Almagest has now ceased. For further information see www.almagest.co.uk.
