EINSTEIN, Albert (1879-1955). Autograph letter signed ('Albert') to his first wife, Mileva, n.p., 23 February 1927, one page, 4to.
'I AM ALWAYS TELLING PEOPLE HOW WELL I GET ON WITH MY EX-WIFE'. The letter opens with news of Einstein's eldest son Hans Albert, who has just visited his father: he is delighted with Hans Albert himself, but his efforts to deter him from what Einstein considers a most ill-advised marriage have been in vain: 'I really got the impression that he has understood that it is madness. But somehow he is so dependent ... If anything could save him, it would be to transplant him here, where he would not let himself be pushed around so much'. He also proposes that his younger son, Eduard ('Tete') should come and stay with him, so as to become a bit more worldly wise than his brother, and avoid the same trap. Einstein declares himself at least proud of how he gets on with Mileva, and pleased with the reception she and the children now give to his second wife, Else.
