Founded in 1250 the Basilica is one of the most important, and most visited, in Florence. Its interior contains frescoes by Andrea del Sarto, Rosso Fiorentino and Pontormo. Ken Howard, a Royal Academician since 1984, and President of the New English Art Club since 1998, was awarded a British Council Scholarship to Florence in 1958, after completing three years study at the Royal College of Art.
