LINDBERGH, Charles A. Printed Map, Variation of the Compass for the Year 1930, SIGNED ("LINDBERGH") AND INSCRIBED, "ORIENT FLIGHT, 1931." , Washington, D.C. U. S. Navy Hydrographic Department, 1929. 50 x 29½ in., with Navy Department stamp, 18 January 1930. Signature and inscription in pencil. A colorfully printed map of the world WITH AUTOGRAPHIC NAVIGATIONAL NOTATIONS BY LINDBERGH IN PENCIL ALONG THE EDGE. One of the maps used by the famed aviator in preparing his flight from New York to Japan and China. Along the left edge he makes the notation: ".3:3.4::X15.35." A legend on the map explains that, "As a basis for the construction of this chart, the Hydrographic Office has utilized all sea observations of the United States Navy, the Department of Terrestrial Magnetism of the Carnegie Institution of Washington, and Foreign Naval Services, also all data from Magnetic Observatories and Magnetic Surveys of the United States and Foreign Governments."
