One of the maps used by the famed aviator in preparing his flight from New York to Japan and China. Along the left edge he makes the notation: ".3:3.4::X15.35." A legend on the map explains that, "As a basis for the construction of this chart, the Hydrographic Office has utilized all sea observations of the United States Navy, the Department of Terrestrial Magnetism of the Carnegie Institution of Washington, and Foreign Naval Services, also all data from Magnetic Observatories and Magnetic Surveys of the United States and Foreign Governments."
