FIVE PORCELAIN GILT-METAL-MOUNTED SEALS
VARIOUS DATES, CIRCA 1755-65
Comprising:
A Chelsea or Chelsea/Derby seal modelled as a hunter and hounds on a mound inscribed in iron-red VOUS LE MERITEZ, the gilt metal mount inset with a cornelian seal intaglio engraved with the initials JGH below fruiting vine (minute chip to aperture in cap, slight wear to extremities)
Another, similar, modelled as a lady seated at a plinth contemplating a letter, on a mound indistinctly inscribed in iron-red TU A MON AMANT, the copper-gilt mount inset with a plain hardstone panel (chip to edge of mound below mount, some minor flaking around aperture to her back)
Another, as a pair of billing birds, one painted with yellow plumage and the other with the plumage of a goldfinch, the mound base inscribed in iron-red LES IMITONS, mounted with a hardstone seal intaglio engraved with a crest above the inscription FIDELLE (glaze sanding)
A seal of a masquerader, the caped figure on a mound inscribed in iron-red TOUJOURS GAI, the hardstone mount engraved with a heart on a pillar (small chip and crack to hardstone mount, minor wear to extremeites)
Another, of 'Girl-in-a-swing' type modelled as a masquerader, on a mound inscribed VAINCRE OU MOURIR (slight wear)
