CIRCA 1775, THE MOVEMENT BY DESCHAMPS A PARIS
The white enamel dial signed Deschamps A PARIS with Roman and Arabic chapters and pierced and chased ormolu hands, the movement with countwheel strike on a bell, later anchor escapement, the backplate signed Deschamps A Paris, the rope twist-moulded bezel set into a rectangular block with ribbon-tied oak wreaths, surmounted by a cockerel standing on a globe surrounded by the attributes of the Arts and flanked to each side by seated winged putti, their curved volute supports panelled with berried foliage, on a breakfront plinth mounted with a central relief of music-making putti, flanked to each side by serpent and laurel-bound paterae, on acanthus headed toupie feet, lacking small further attributes beneath the globe, with key and pendulum, with a printed label 'Couto'
