Lot Essay

Also known as La Cage Vide où La Douleur de Babet, this Sèvres biscuit figure and its pendant L'Enfant aux oiseaux are based on Favart's comedy La Vallée de Montmorency. She was originally conceived with a birdcage supported on her apron (see E. Bourgeois, Le Biscuit de Sèvres au XVIIIe Siècle, Paris, 1909, p.18.
