1905 CORRE 8HP REAR ENTRANCE TONNEAU
COACHWORK BY VINET OF NEUILLY

Registration No. Not registered
Engine No. 18022

Engine: De Dion Bouton water-cooled single cylinder, 106 x 120mm, 1,058cc, automatic inlet valve; Gearbox: three speed and reverse, cone clutch, shaft-drive to bevel back axle; Suspension: front, semi -elliptic leaf springs, rear three-quarter elliptic leaf springs; Brakes: rear wheel and transmission brakes. Wooden artillery wheels. Right hand drive.

It is believed that this car is a Corre since in almost every respect it matches the specification of the other Corre in this sale (Registration No. LC 1841) but unlike its apparent namesake it is a full restoration project. The one obvious difference in the layout is that the radiator is placed low-down at the front like a contemporary De Dion Bouton, rather than being dashboard mounted, with an under-bonnet water-tank being located in this position. The De Dion Bouton engine is of 1905 date and the pressed steel, rather than a tubular chassis, indicates a post-1904 model. All the running gear appears to be present although the engine, radiator, bonnet and front mudguards are currently in a semi-detached state. The dashboard has its all-important lubricators (by Liotard Frères) in place and from here backwards the car is to all intents and purposes complete although in a shabby condition.

The charming rear-entrance tonneau body was made, as a plate on the off-side and the threshold plates show, by Vinet of Neuilly, a minor coach-builder but one who clearly knew his trade. The supplier's plate on the dashboard reads E. Coulon à Clermont (Oise), Clermont being a small town about 40 miles north of Paris where Monsieur Coulon ran a small garage business in the rue des Fontaines from about 1900 at least until the Great War.

For those who regularly express that their dream is an interesting restoration project, here is an excellent opportunity to make that dream come true.
Special notice
No VAT will be charged on the hammer price, but VAT at 17.5% will be added to the buyer's premium, which is invoiced on a VAT inclusive basis.
