This is a benchmark example of Austin's six cylinder model, which in 1937 had undergone a complete facelift to bring it up to contemporary style and by now the engine was somewhat refined compared with earlier models. Arguably the most handsome model of the 1937 generation, it would bring sales of 11,349 units, and received favourable press, it was marketed as 'the Sound Insulated car'.

An old V5 registration document provides the information that this Austin was first registered on 3rd July 1939, which confirms it to have been of London origin, though very little else is known of its history. Family member Alan Sharpe recalls purchasing the car approximately 40 years ago, during one of the most prolific buying periods and when other similar Austins joined the collection and believes that the 11,000 milometer reading is accurate.

This is entirely supported by the overall condition of the car, which save for some surface corrosion to the bodywork in localised areas is quite remarkable for its originality. The commodious interior is in extremely good and barely aged order, being complete with the luxury requisites of fold down central arm rest, arm straps, dual ashtrays etc.

The car has remained in storage at the Gables Service Station for much of their ownership only seeing the light of day earlier this year for catalogue preparation.
