'The car of aircraft quality' was an appropriate slogan when it was used by John Siddeley's Armstrong Siddeley company for its products in the early 1930s. Consistent with its policy of steadily improving their existing well-known range of cars, the company introduced a revised edition of the 15hp model in 1933. The improvements for this type included increased power output, new rubberized engine mountings and a crankshaft damper to reduce vibration. The braking system was simplified and improved and the special features of the pre-selective, self-changing gearbox remained an extremely important component and one which had proved so reliable Messrs. Armstrong Siddeley introduced it as a standardized fitting five years earlier.
An old buff log book provides confirmation that this Armstrong Siddeley was sold new and registered on 1st May 1935, under the auspices of Middlesex County Council. Two years later, the car was purchased by Harold Raynes of Seymour Road, Finchley on 16th June 1937. The car survived the war years with Mr Raynes and continued in his ownership until the late 1950s.
It was purchased by the Sharpe family in their more prolific buying period during the mid 1960s and until very recent remained in storage. In preparation for the auction the car was retrieved and has been basically tidied cosmetically.
The car is offered with old and more modern V5 document.
