A Louis Philippe mahogany eight-day large size marine chronometer
Breguet, Neveu, & Cie. No. 4323. Originally sold in 1839 to the Ministerie de la Marine
The silvered dial with eccentric engraved Roman and Arabic chapter ring with blued steel spade and poker hands, seconds ring below, power reserve sector (Develop de Ressort) to the right side, the dial signed Breguet Neveu & Cie. No. 4323 Dépot de la Marine, the movement with chain fusee, spring barrel and centre wheel within the main frame, the remainder of the train within an eliptical sub-frame with cut bimetallic balance to spring detent escapement (poorly re-built and defective), large brass movement bowl with covered winding hole to the underside, heavily facetted gimbal ring, triangular brass securing device in the underside to secure the bowl, the two-tier box with hinged rectangular top lid set with a brass triangular plaque engraved 4223, push-release button to the front revealing a brass-framed glazed port hole, brass drop handles to the sides, the front set with a bone plaque engraved Breguet 4324 A. L. B, double-throw lock; with the original brass double-ended tipsy winding key punch-numbered 4323 and Breguet certificate (No. 3753) stating that the present chronometer was sold to the Ministerie de la Marine on 1st. October, 1839 for 3474 francs
