Lot Essay

The country house of the Counts Sheremetyev was built by Matvei Kazakov in 1789-96, and enlarged by Quarenghi in 1801. As at Tsarskoye Selo, Pavlovsk and Peterhof he may also have designed elegant neoclassical pavilions for the park.
