A STAFFORDSHIRE SPILL VASE
representing William Clarke or Frederick Lillywhite, standing half right with a cricket ball in his right hand, wearing a beaver hat and braces, his jacket hung over the branch of a tree (spill-holder), 6½in. (16.5cm.) high, c. 1843.

Pugh F454-455 (plate 1, fig. 1) illustrates the present vase "in the collection of Mr. I.N.R. Shield", categorising it as "very rare" and "desirable".
