A period scale model of the high speed commuter yacht Vamoose
attributed to Gustav Graham, circa 1900
a solid hull model built up in wood and painted with green bottom, white topsides and a tan deck. The model is fitted with a number of details including: jack staff, anchors, anchor davit, ventilators, cabin tops, funnel, canopy, life lines, boat rigged on davits, and other details. The model is mounted on a pair of turned brass pedestals, and displayed in glass case with brass trim and a mahogany base

Lot Essay

Vamoose was one of the early Herreshoff designed high speed commuters designed for William Randolf Hearst in 1890, with principal dimensions of LOA: 112.5ft, Beam: 12.4ft, Draft: 7ft. She was mainly used for commuting from Long Island. She lasted 30 years, a long time for a small, light coastal craft.
