Signed Sadamasa and kao, Edo Period (circa 1800)
An aorigata dark shibuichi tsuba decorated in iroe takazogan with Fujin the Wind God creating a storm, inscribed Shozui, 18th Century; a sentoku tsuba formed as a buddhist gong, the handle carved as opposed dragons' heads seizing a jewel in their jaws, gilt detail, signed Yasutaka, second half 18th Century; and a mokkogata sentoku tsuba copied from a Yasuchika design, a hare in kosukashi among bracken buds gazing at the moon, unsigned, 18th-19th Century

Lot Essay

For a similar example of the tsuba by Sadamasa see Christie's, Japanese Swords and Sword Fittings from the Collection of Dr. Walter A. Compton, part I (New York auction catalogue, 31 March 1992), lot 104). Sadamasa was student of the famous Kusakari Sendai Sadamasa and almost his equal in skill.

Yasutaka was a pupil of Yasuchika II.
