A Black-Lacquer Suit of Armor**
Edo period (18th-19th century), the face mask signed Myochin ki Munehide saku
Laced entirely in blue with white and orange highlights with the component plates lacquered black, comprising a sixty-two plate russet-iron suji-bachi mounted with a five-stage tehen kanamono of gilt-copper carved with scrolling vines, the turnbacks lacquered black and applied with gilt-copper family crests, the helmet peak applied with floral scroll raised in relief, the forecrest a gilt-copper disc and with gilt-copper kuwagata, the helmet fitted with a four-lame solid-iron neck guard; the face mask russet-iron with a three-lame solid-iron throat guard; the cuirass a ni-mai yokohagi okegawa do (an armor of horizontal plates) with the top four plates laced in spaced lacing, the cuirass fitted with eight sections of five-lame solid-plate iron tassets; chu-sode shoulder guards; shino gote sleeves; splint shin guards; lacquered-leather thigh guards; one wood storage box
