With a brêche marble top and a fall front decorated with immitation book spines above a pair of doors with applied mouldlings in immiation of a tambour and enclosing a divided interior, the sides quarter- veneered and cross banded and with short cabriole legs and scrolled sabot feet, stamped to the top 'JANSEN', the fall front locked

Lot Essay

Maison Jansen was established in Paris in 1880 by the Dutch immigrant Henri Jansen. From his shop at 9, rue Royale, he sold furniture and furnishings, also making furniture in the fashionable Art Nouveau style and exhibiting at the World Fairs. By the early 20thC the firm was concentrating on antique furniture and reproductions, as well as creating period interiors for clients including the Vanderbilts, the Rockerfellers and King Leopold II of Belgium.
