Of rounded rectangular shape, the well-hollowed pale greyish-beige body set off by brown markings carved to create a young boy holding lotus blossoms in his right hand, his left hand outstretched towards a bird, with bats hovering in the background, the reverse carved with a further bat and the moon inscribed with the character yue (moon), stopper

Lot Essay

This bottle exhibits the silhouette style of the Official School, in which a thin plane of darker material is cut through to create the design. An agate bottle of this type from the Blanche B. Exstein Collection was sold in these rooms, 21 March 2002, lot 116.
