The joined bottles of rounded rectangular form with raised panels on each side, one bottle carved from the black areas of the stone, the other pale greyish-white, two coral stoppers

Double bottles were designed to hold two different kinds of snuff. The true snuff aficionado could distinguish the many different flavors, ages and grades of snuff; as such, double and even triple bottles evolved to carry more than one type.
