Provenance
From a collection formed in the late 19th Century by the present owner's great great uncle, Edward Towry Whyte, and by her grandfather, Sir William Palin Elderton, K.B.E. In 1932, a major portion of the collection was bequeathed by Edward Towry Whyte to the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, and further antiquities were donated in the 1950s by Sir William Palin Elderton. The remaining antiquities were sold at Christie's London, 3 July 1996, lots 229-235.
