Lot Essay

The Arch of Titus was built in close proximity to the Colosseum and was erected after the death of the Emperor Titus in 81 A.D. to commemorate his celebrated capture of Jerusalem. The Arch stood at the east entrance to the Forum Romanum on the Sacra Via, one of the oldest streets in Rome, so called because of the sacred monuments which lined its sides.
