Circa 1774, blue interlaced L's, gilder's mark for a member of the Weydinger family
The king's head in relief to right within a circular medallion, the integral frame enriched with gilt bands

Lot Essay
According to David Peters, the present portrait and its pendant of Queen Marie Antoinette were produced in a large edition particularly around the time of their accession to the throne in 1774.
